Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income, high-mobility school that is Title I. This means all of our children receive free breakfast and lunch during the school day. We have a diverse population and serve children and families from many different cultures.
The students at our school are sweet and crave positive interactions and for someone to show a genuine interest in them.
They are eager to learn new things and love to share what they have learned with others. These students need positive role models in their lives to introduce them to the wonders of the world around them.
My Project
In order for my students to really have an understanding of environmental science they must first understand the interconnections of life cycles and what it means to care for other living beings. Learning to care for the earth will come along side an understanding of what is happening in the world around them.
"I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand" - Confucius.
These ants, butterflies and lizards will give my students the opportunities to watch as animals grow and change throughout the stages of their lives. The students in my class will learn what is needed to care for these animals as classroom pets and living creatures. Our butterflies will be used to show students life cycles and will eventually be released in the school garden and outside classroom area.
