Living Legends: A Wax Museum Journey Through Biographies

My Project

What I love most about my students is their natural curiosity and excitement for learning. They are eager to dive into new topics and bring them to life in creative ways. Biographies are powerful tools that help my students connect with real people from the past, understand different perspectives, and see how one person's actions can make a difference in the world. By providing new, age-appropriate and engaging biographies in varying levels of difficulty, our young learners will have the opportunity to explore history through storytelling—developing research skills, building empathy, and inspiring them to dream big. These books are the foundation of our Wax Museum project and will be the key resource that brings their learning to life.

Our school hallways come to life during this interactive project, as students choose a historical figure to research and then 'become' that person for a day.

After reading a biography and gathering key facts about their figure’s life and accomplishments, our fourth-grade students dress in costume and prepare a short speech or presentation. On the day of the event, they stand in place like wax statues, and when visitors “press” a pretend button, the students come to life to share what they’ve learned. It’s a fun and engaging way for students to deepen their understanding of history, practice public speaking, and celebrate their hard work with family, friends, and fellow students.
