Our 4th grade classroom is composed of a diverse group of students with a variety of learning needs. I have the opportunity to teach math and language arts to my students, and science to all of the 4th graders at the school. Reading is a primary focus at our school and these students are eager to participate in our whole school reading challenge. Our reading program tracks the total number of words each student has read during the school year and those that read 1 million words or more earn an award. I have a number of students who are striving to become word millionaires.
I would greatly appreciate an assortment of books to meet the needs and interests of my students!
There is no greater reward as a teacher than seeing a student achieve their goals. In my classroom I want my students to set attainable goals as I will provide as much support as possible to help them reach that.
My Project
As a first year teacher I am looking to expand my classroom library with both fiction and non-fiction books.
My goal is to update my current classroom library and infuse it with popular 4th grade book titles to attract readers of all levels and interests.
The Who was/Who Is series is a popular non-fiction series amongst my class.
Also, I serve as the 4th grade science teacher, and I find the Eyewitness books are a key component to enrich my science instruction. I also believe in a hands-on approach to teaching science; one of our most popular laboratory instruments in my class are the microscopes. Throughout the year we will be exploring both plants and animals, and the prepared slides displaying plants, their pollen, and a variety of bugs will be an excellent addition to my current science lessons.
