Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the first time in my career, I find myself teaching middle school social studies. I love history, and teaching it to my Title I students, regardless of their age. I know that my incoming middle school students in the South Bronx will be beyond eager to attend school this fall, whether in person or virtually.

I will continue to do everything in my power to get all levels and abilities of my middles engaged and interested in global history and US history so that when they enter high school they have a solid foundation.

Of course I will still dress in character, talk with an accent, and use my microphone! I work diligently to show my cherubs the world outside of New York City.

My Project

Since the pandemic first ravaged NYC, I found myself sharing my screen to teach, read and explain announcements or to help students understand procedures for local services.

I'm using one monitor now and so I lose the ability to see what I am streaming without a second monitor, or the quality is so bad that I lose viewers because they can't see the stream.

When I'm reading about local food donations or highlighting my codes on Kahoot, Quizizz or Flipgrid, I can't actually see what I'm streaming without this second monitor.

Additionally, I ran into a lot of problems with forms and how to fill them out. Often forms required an awkward individual zoom meeting, and it would be nice to stream and create tutorials in which I can show the process necessary to fill out these forms. I can do this with a document camera from school, but I need a brighter light to be able to see what I'm writing. A simple, inexpensive ring light would help me achieve this.

This is a long-term investment. Everything that I've received via Donor's Choose, I have used to develop our multi-media engagement.
