Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our UTK classroom in Los Angeles, play is the foundation of learning! Our young learners are curious, hands-on explorers who thrive when given opportunities to engage in real-world experiences through imaginative play. With pretend grocery items, we can create a mini-market in our classroom that fosters math, language, social-emotional, and problem-solving skills in a fun and meaningful way.

The play food we’re requesting will transform our dramatic play area into a realistic store where students can:

Develop early math skills by sorting food into categories, counting items, and pretending to exchange money. Build language and communication by making shopping lists, describing food items, and role-playing customer interactions. Learn cooperation and social skills by taking turns as shoppers and cashiers, practicing patience, and working together. Enhance critical thinking by deciding what to “buy” within a budget, making choices, and problem-solving.

This project will provide our students with:

Hands-on learning experiences that connect play to real-life situations. Opportunities to develop key academic skills in a way that feels fun and engaging. A welcoming, inclusive classroom environment where every child can participate, learn, and grow.

Our young learners are eager, creative, and full of imagination! Many come from diverse backgrounds, and for some, school is their first structured learning experience. Providing them with high-quality, interactive materials ensures that every child has access to enriching, play-based learning that fosters confidence and curiosity.

With your support, we can bring this exciting learning experience to life and give our students the tools they need to learn through play, develop essential life skills, and build a strong foundation for their future.

Thank you for making a difference in their education!
