This school year I am teaching 3k to 15 enthusiastic little learners in a NYC Public School in the Bronx. It is my first year teaching preschoolers. Young children learn best when they can explore on their own with activities that interest them in a child-centered environment. Through play-based learning, my preschoolers will become self-directed learners who explore, develop curiosity, and solve problems.
My students love to learn.
Every day they walk into our classroom and are so excited for their school day to begin.
My Project
Three year olds learn through exploring their world. A science center would greatly help my little learners investigate the world around them. These items can spark the curiosity that will lay the foundation for a love of science. By nurturing and creating a positive approach to science, my students will build important skills and attitudes for learning. In our animal theme unit of study, my students will be able to use the science viewers to get an up close look at animals, insects, spiders and sea creatures. What kid does not love bugs? The real bugs discovery kit will allow my children to observe real life specimens of bugs using the magnifier. Using the magnet discovery kit and wands, the students will be able to explore how magnets attract and repel. During our plant unit of study, students will greatly benefit from the see it grow plant lab. They will be able to observe the growth from seed to plant. The see inside bucket balance will allow my students to observe, weight, and compare different objects. Preschoolers love ramps! Using the roll and race ramp activity, my littles ones will be able to compare and visualize how different textured can affect speed of moving objects.
By donating these science items, my three year old students will be able to experiment with magnets, see real bugs, see plants grow, discover how ramps work, observe, weigh and compare objects, and view animals up-close.
Together we can make a difference in my preschoolers first exposure to science.
