My Students

Most of the students in my classroom have difficulty with fine, gross, and visual motor skills. This reading center is the perfect opportunity to assist students with mastering everyday life skills such as book handling, page turning, and visual motor skills.

My students range from ages 3-5 and have been diagnosed with a plethora of physical disabilities that impact their fine motor skills and mobility.

They are very enthusiastic about learning and find pleasure in exploring new ideas and concepts. My school is located in a neighborhood where 95% of the residents annual incomes are below poverty levels.

My Project

After laminating the pages of the books, students will have access to browse books and improve beginning reading skills. We will create a reading library/calm area where students are able to independently access the reading materials and, have a place to calm down when feeling sad, anxious or in need of a break.

Most of my students have physically disabilities that impact their ability to turn pages of paper book pages without accomodations.

Laminating makes the books sturdier and easier to handle. Most of my students also have a tendency to mouth object so the lamination will also act as a barrier to moisture.
