Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool special needs students have been greatly impacted by school closure. Their parents are working diligently to meet the needs of these children, but are obviously trained educators with specialized knowledge and materials.

The majority of my students are nonverbal 3 and 4 year old children who are on the autism spectrum.Typically, these children receive specialized instruction and speech therapy to meet their individual needs.

My Project

Many of the students I serve do not have appropriate toys at home that are conducive to facilitating foundational language skills. The play sets in this project were chosen to target turn taking, imitation and joint attention skills which are the basis for developing communication. In addition, these toys are bright and colorful which will help engage the children when they are playing with their families. The toys are also developmentally appropriate and are related to the curriculum used when my students are able to return to school next year.
