Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am honored and humbled to teach an amazing group of hardworking and determined first graders. My students attend a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. My students come from low-income communities, and all receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are learning English as their second language and some are the only person in their family to read and speak English.

We will be working hard all year to achieve our big goals!

My Project

This year I will be moving grade levels and classrooms. The room I am moving into needs a lot of love! Working at a Title 1 school means there is very little funding to improve our space and ensure that it is welcoming for each and every student. It is vital that my students have more supplies and reading materials. They learn best through hands-on learning. My students will use the materials and supplies to maximize their learning. Unfortunately my school does not provide colored printing. As a result I will need my own colored printing supplies to print age appropriate materials that foster a love for learning. My students need furniture and additional carpets to make our classroom feel like home, as this is the only home for many of them.
