Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Transitional Kindergarten in a suburb of Los Angeles. My school is located in a low-income area of Los Angeles. Most of the families my school services speak English as a second language. My students are the first year of a two year kindergarten program. This program will help them develop brain and physical skills along with their social and emotional development. This will help them be better prepared for the academic rigors in the years ahead.

For many of my students, this is the first year they have ever been in school and they have handled their time at school very well.

They are eager to learn and love to ask questions about the world around them.

My Project

The Osmo Genius Kit is and educational program that incorporate hands-on learning with technology. The kit includes hands-on materials for the children to manipulate and accessories to attach to an iPad. It uses the camera of the iPad to document what the children are doing with the manipulatives. the children access the different Osmo games through a series of apps on the iPad. These game address math, reasoning skills, cognitive skills and fine motor development.

The children merge the use of technology with the benefits of hands-on learning.

Not only will the children use technology to be 21st century learners, they will also have the benefit of tactile and kinesthetic learning.
