Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I elementary school that serves students in grades PK-5 and provides rigorous academics, outstanding teachers and a safe environment for learning. Although, we have limited resources, our campus was among 27 schools from across the country named to the 2017 America’s Best Urban Schools list by the National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST). Also, we were recognized as one of the “TOP GOLD RIBBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN HOUSTON”.

During the month of September, Houston was hit by Hurricane Harvey which caused devastation to our city and our community.

Most of my first graders come from very large families with a low income. Several families from our school were affected. Even though they have faced hardships and limitations in and out of school, our students come to school each day with enthusiasm and hope.

My Project

Blankets will help my students stay warm at night. Since they come from large families, these blankets can benefit not only themselves but their siblings as well. This winter has been the coldest in 20 years. With a good night rest, they will be able to come to school alert and ready to learn!

Receiving these blankets will cause an impact in their lives by realizing that they are cared for.

Schools should not solely care for their academic development, but to make sure their needs are met as well.

Let us give a nice and a warm winter. They deserve it!
