My Students

This past year was my first full year as a full time teacher. I was given a position as a 7th grade english teacher to ESL students.

It was definitely a bit of a curveball, but so rewarding, the students I got were amazing.

I had to reinvent ways to teach them, I learned that with the more visuals I used, and the more I made assignments seem like fun, the more progress my students showed in their work.

In Halloween season, I wanted to come up with something extra exciting, I found an escape room project. I hid worksheets around the room and the students had to find clues to get to the next worksheet.

The assignment went extremely well, it was amazing to see which students took the lead in delegating how the rest of the group would function. Some students who spoke english a little better than others, helped to translate for the lower level students. They didn't let anyone fall behind, and the lower level students were really putting in their maximum effort to help the group progress.

Individual and in groups, these kids were great and make me so excited for this next school year!

My Project

I intend to use these magazines to introduce students to the world their living in with articles that are easy for them to read, with bright pictures to keep them intrigued.

Time for Kids gives students an introduction to the news and explains their world events that would otherwise be overlooked by them because of the small fact that they are young.

With these articles, I could have the students do weekly assignments where they write about what they learned from an article of their choosing, as well as how the article made them feel. We would have open discussions about what the world as a whole should be doing to fix the problems mentioned, and how they can make an impact as an individual from their own homes.

No matter how small the change, every action has a consequence, or a reward.

We will read articles like the ones about the Amazon Forest Fire and how we can help reverse global warming with things like recycling, and carpool, and many more things to keep ourselves informed.
