Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are goofy, silly, funny, emotional, frustrated, energetic, impulsive and craving someone to care about them. My classroom consists of ten students with special needs and fifteen students of mixed English Language Learners and General Education students.

This makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

I do my very best to make each child feel special and that they can do it. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students, as well as children in shelters. It would be great to give these students a chance and an opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

In order for my students to succeed, they need to be able to engage in student led activities through active play and exploration while using various materials. My students have cognitive delays which greatly hinder their learning progress. In addition to their delays, they are coming from broken homes with little to no family support. I want my students to have the ability to express themselves in artistic and creative ways. I want them to be able to engage in drama using puppets and real life situations through building, creating and finding solutions.

Using the Story Telling Puppets, Big Books and Emergent Reader Books will allow them to act out books, which will spark an interest in reading.

My students will be able to have deeper conversations and in depth explorations through the magnet building sets. They will be able to develop a world of creativity and build a motivation to learn. The Smart Pencil and Interactive Learning Cards will allow them to engage in student driven activities, which will build their self-confidence and give them ownership over their learning. The Lake Shore Smart Pencils will allow my students to be independent. The Magnetic Building Blocks will give them the room they need to create imaginative structures while strengthening their motor skills.

Donations to my project will be empowering students through

student led learning, as well as helping foster an imaginative and creative classroom.

It will give students confidence by allowing them to feel ownership over their learning and their environment. My students come from broken homes and are often in and out of shelters. Having a real space with the tools needed to guide them in their learning, would give them the drive to want to learn!
