My Students

Life in our music room is loud, fun, full of learning, dynamic and definitely full of movement! Unfortunately, without enough materials to serve our large class sizes, many students have to participate in our movement activities without manipulatives. Let's get all of these kids up and moving!

My students are amazing children, all living on the South Side of Chicago.

While many of my students come from difficult backgrounds or less than ideal living situations, they continue to amaze me daily with their enthusiasm for learning. My school serves 600 students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. We have a staff that inspires me with their love for our students and their willingness to go above and beyond the expectation to form meaningful relationships with our students and families. My school community is truly amazing.

My Project

My students need ribbon wands, color cones, microphones and movement manipulatives to use as we dance, twirl, jump and dance to learn about musical concepts. These resources can enliven my music classroom by making it possible for EVERY student to have a movement manipulative EVERY time we do a movement activity instead of having to participate without one due to a limited number of resources and large class sizes. I am asking for various materials for my students to use as we explore musical concepts such as tempo, mood, rhythm, and movement. Students will have the opportunity to swing, dance, twirl, jump, jive, and perform with the materials that this project will provide. Students will benefit from these materials as we use them to explore how we can use our bodies to express mood, tempo, and other musical concepts. When kids are up moving using kinesthetic processes, they will absorb more information and remember more! With these resources, students will dance and explore musical concepts like tempo, dynamics, and mood. Students will be up and moving, using their bodies to experience music and will surely be having a blast!

Your donation will improve my classroom by enriching the music experience for all 600 of my amazing students, and all of my new students to come in future years.
