My Project

Many of my students are preverbal and have never been to school. A library is a crucial part of a preschool classroom. A space dedicated to peaceful, imaginative reading, allows little ones to wind down, learn and discover, and experience the joys and wonders of a story.

A good reading corner will encourage my students to sit down and pick up a book and help them associate reading with positive feelings.

Listening to audiobooks, retelling stories with felt board material, flexible seating, tactile books, and a light box that will provide access to literacy. When children hear stories, they learn new words, and their comprehension grows.

My students’ love of books is more than just a story; it gives them comfort, reassurance, confidence, self-regulation, happiness, and fun. Many of my books are broken, ripped, and missing pages. The families that I serve are low-income families with little to no access to books and literacy materials.

Help me ignite their love for learning, calm their fears, all the while creating an environment that engages multiple senses and promotes self-directed, experiential learning.
