My students are hardworking, competitive, and happy. Despite their age, they are active participants in their journey in special education. They are aware of their goals and continue to work to meet them. Together, we are a team who came up with this list of items that will allow them to be excited about learning and strive to try their best.
We have collaborated together to come up with this list of supplies and classroom furniture that will meet their needs for a safe and exciting learning environment while including their interests to motivate their learning experience.
In our previous Donors Choose project, our first, we were gifted our first classroom furniture pieces. We are requesting new items this time such as the Balance Ball seats. Flexible seating excites them before the learning even begins. My students require motivation to read and they have requested animal and science books amongst their reading level. This includes the National Geographic book set and Human Anatomy books. We have few classroom games for when they earn a Fun Friday block, so we're requesting some floor puzzles and group games to improve strategy and friendly competition. The other items include a variety of materials for students specific IEP skills/goals, as well as general classroom materials.
Each of these items will make a difference in students' learning by acknowledging that they have choice in their learning and show that I can include their interests in gaining and acquiring the skills they need. They will continue becoming active leaders in setting goals with these materials and take pride in their progress, understanding that it is a journey that includes both productive struggle and reward.
