My Students

I work in a low-income school and our program is an at-risk Pre-K. At-risk factors include low-income, single family homes, incarcerated parent, English as a second language. 32% of my students also qualify for my program by needing an IEP to help to with their academic, social, and health needs.

I have two sessions, AM and PM Pre-K classes, with 40 students total.

My students range in age from 3-5 years, and are energetic, talkative, caring, and social. Every student deserves enough hands-on materials to help them learn the skills and concepts necessary to be successful in Kindergarten.

My Project

The materials in this project will help my students learn about sounds and the five senses, and are hands-on activities that allow my students to work at their own ability level, as well as work collaboratively with other students. The materials I am specifically requesting include sound matching games, activities that focus on beginning and ending sounds in words, as well as a sound phone to help work on identifying letters and sounds.

When we are learning about sounds, we are also working on math, literacy, and science concepts!

Students learn best through hands-on activities in which they can use all of their senses. They need to touch, move, and manipulate items to help learn and remember new concepts. Preschool should be fun and engaging through games and activities! I need more materials in my classroom to help students stay engaged and excited.
