Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my second-grade and third-grade class are special education students attending a Title 1 school in Harlem. My students are eager to learn and soak up a lot of information.

The students are very inquisitive and are very eager to learn and grow and I am eager to provide them with tools that will help them to do that!

In addition to being eager learners, my students are also active learners and they like to move around a lot!

My Project

This project is about helping my little learners become more fluent in comprehension, sight words, and phonics.

Comprehension is an important skill to making sure that the reader can not only read the words on the page, but can also understand what the message of the story is.

My higher level readers will utilize the comprehension-based products such as the Reading Comprehension Daily Practice Journals, Early Comprehension Story Wheels, and the Read, Note & Respond Journal.

Sight words are an extremely important part of building fluency in reading. My students who are approaching grade level texts and who are learning to read will benefit highly from the sight word products such as Lakeshore Fiction Sight-Word Readers and the Sight-Word Daily Activity Journal.

Phonics is an essential skill for learning how to decode words. When students can hear the sounds in a word, they will be able to recognize them and build them, which ultimately will lead to them becoming better readers. Products such as the Letter-Sound Matching Board and 3-Letter Word Building Puzzles will help my students to work on their knowledge of words through phonics practice.

All of these products combined will be used both in the classroom and for practice at home. I truly believe that the selected materials will make a great impact in the student's lives and will engage them.
