This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so lucky to spend my days with 22 of the most curious, kind, gregarious, and inspiring first graders I've ever known. They enter my classroom wide-eyed and eager to learn every day. With such a motivated group of learners, my days are so fun and rewarding as a teacher.

My students do not let obstacles stand in their way.

Our school is over 90% free/reduced lunch receiving students, but their attitudes would never give you any indication of that. My students do not let such things define them; they are hard workers, inquisitive thinkers, and tenacious learners. Our school works tirelessly to strive for greatness, and I aim to embody this ideal in my classroom every day. I keep high expectations for my students, and they still manage to surprise me with their incredible achievements every lesson.

All children are deserving of a world-class education, and my students are no exception. Quality school supplies to enable and enhance their learning can be great financial hardships for my students' families. This is why I am asking for your help.

My Project

These math manipulatives and supplies will enhance math instruction in my classroom greatly. I use a workshop model for teaching math, so my students will each get a chance to utilize these items in a small group setting with 4-6 peers to collaborate with.

When my students can physically touch and move manipulatives, they gain a better understanding of what they are learning and the concepts being taught.

The giant floor ten frames, giant floor 120 charts, and giant floor number line will allow my students to visually understand and build number sense, as well as keep them engaged and discussing math concepts with their peers. My kids will model math problems with these fun, giant math tools again and again. These items are so much more fun and engaging than worksheets since they are large and used on the floor.

I have also selected items that will allow me to create my own targeted, engaging lessons. The sheet protectors will be utilized as whiteboards that I can slip ten frames and number lines inside of. The multicolored whiteboard markers are for students to color code math problems with.

Finally, I have a few items that will allow me to run my small group math instruction more smoothly. The mini pocket chart is for clearly displaying math problems to students. The magnetic clock will be instrumental for me teaching and be demonstrating time telling during small group lessons. The magnetic number bonds and number lines will be great visuals on my whiteboard for showing students relationships between numbers. The addition machine set will be a great way for my students to visually see how numbers are added. I know they will have fun trying out the machine themselves, too!
