My Students

My students come from poverty stricken homes. Some of their parents come home from a hard day of work and don't have time to spend with their children. I want the students to be able to get the satisfaction of learning how to cook and or bake. "People who love to eat are always the best people."

They love to explore new ideas and experience new things.

Most of them come from poverty stricken homes and don't have a lot. They love to come to school and learn new things every day. This is their safe haven. My school is a Title 1 school and tries to help each child as much as it can. We don't have a lot of extracurricular activities for lack of money. I want my students to experience things that they most likely don't experience at home or elsewhere. I think by cooking and baking the students will be motivated to learn how to read, learn math skills, like measuring, and all things necessary for cooking and baking.

My Project

My students need an electric skillet, a hand mixer, and a convection oven to explore the process of cooking and baking in the classroom. My students will be able to explore cooking and baking in a fun and exciting way. They will learn how to find recipes in a cook book. They will learn what a measuring cup and why it is necessary to bake and cook. They will learn the satisfaction of putting something together and having that anticipation to see what will come out. Cooking and baking includes all different learning modalities including math, science and reading. Students will be doing all this in an enjoyable way. My students also need picture books, toy petits fours, and a chef's hat.

This will help me explore different cooking and baking activities my students can enjoy doing.

We don't have any of these equipment in my classroom so I am very limited with what I can do with my students.
