Little Bodies, Big Brains!

My Students

Every morning we start off the day with a chant: This is the way HEY! We start our day HEY! To get the knowledge HEY! To go to college HEY! But don't stop there HEY! Go annyyywhere HEY! This is the way HEY! WE START OUR DAY HEY!

I am honored and humbled to teach an amazing group of hardworking and determined first graders.

My students attend a public school in Minneapolis. My students come from low-income communities, and all receive free or reduced lunch. All of my students are Hispanic, and the majority of my students are learning English as their second language. Some of my students are the only person in their house to read and speak English. We will be working hard all year to achieve our big goal of reaching second grade! My students work hard every day to accomplish this goal. At the young age of 6, my students are already demonstrating grit and determination that will get them to and through college.

My Project

As I begin to build our classroom, it is vital that my students have a communal place to sit. We are in need of a large rug that will accommodate all of our bodies and some room to move around. My students will use the books to grow their brains and increase their reading fluency. This will put their reading readiness into high gear! My students need a whiteboard easel to enhance learning during morning meeting and other carpet learning times. My students need a listening center and books on CDs to increase their fluidity and help them become better readers. My students would greatly benefit from having a listening center, being that they do not often get read to.

Any donation will improve my classroom tremendously.

Each student deserves an equitable education. Please help me in ensuring that each student is given the exceptional education they deserve.
