My Students

Young children have the ability to dream, imagine, and create. When children do not have access to art material, artistic creativity is limited. My students could be a potential Picasso or Monet if they had access to materials to express their artistic abilities.

My students attend a non profit preschool program for the employees in the school district.

They are between the ages three and five years old. Our program is an all day program that allows the children to explore areas that interest them. One of the favorite areas in our room is the art center. I find that when my students are allowed access to a variety of different art materials, their creativity flows beyond my own imagination. Art materials allow these students to create projects that are meaningful and promote self-esteem.

My Project

The materials that I have requested will give children an opportunity to use paint with brushes, create finger paints, make bugs with the bug bodies, and enhance projects created on different types of paper with shapes related to the current theme in the classroom. As they choose different types of art media, they can create something that has inspired them in one of our art master's books. Or they can compile their own materials that may include painting an outdoor scene that portrays an experience they have enjoyed and then enhance it with materials that they have gathered on a nature walk, or they can use similar materials from the art center to make their vision come to life. Our students will learn how to use art materials that can be blended, formed into sculptures, or 3-D objects that are a reflection of their ideas while allowing them to have the freedom to express their ideas and thoughts through artistic creativity.

This project is important to me because I see children who are not allowed to express themselves artistically in school anymore.

Schools do not promote the arts because there is currently a lack of funding. Hopefully by giving my students the opportunity to engage in art opportunities, it will promote a life long passion and they will continue to create as they learn.
