My students need novels to round out our classroom sets. We use our novels in literature circles and due to a limited number of books students need to share.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are so moved by the continued support that the Donors Choose community gives us. The generosity of others inspires use daily and we are truly blessed.
My students live in a high poverty and high crime neighborhood in Philadelphia.
The basic needs we take for granted are not being met on a daily basis. As if this struggle was not enough to deal with they are exposed to the reality of crime and drug use that haunts their neighborhood.
Despite all of the adversity my students want to succeed and to compete on a level playing field with their peers. The needs are great but they are willing to work hard.
My Project
This year students are participating in literature circles during their reading block. Many students share his/her novel with a classmate which means they do not have access to their novel everyday. Some students need to re-read or read ahead due to his/her reading level and this strategy is not available because the book numbers are limited.
The additional novels will allow each student to have his/her own novel for the duration of the book.
This will be a game changer when it comes to discussing the book and collaborating with each other during class. We will be able to work in literature circles everyday instead of taking turns. My students will be able to read more novels and be exposed to many different genres and authors because they will have the book everyday.
