Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Facing adversity should not be typical for 8-year-olds. My students arrive at school each day eager to learn despite those obstacles. They attend a Title 1 school in Bushwick, Brooklyn right across the street from low-income housing projects. The majority of our students come from low-income families, single-parent households with English as their second language.

In my integrated co-teaching classroom, our beautiful-minded students need a common area for collaborative learning.

They would benefit so much by having more supplemental activities to engage their learning in the Literary Lounge. They enjoy learning new things from group or individual reading time. They get so excited picking out books, engaging in conversations about character types and story plots, and showing their parents how they are improving!

Watching the students show enthusiasm for reading as they jump reading levels is amazing!

My Project

Students will be excited to use our comfortable seating as a retreat from formal school seating and become more intrenched in their learning. Rather than spreading out on hard tile floor, they can relax on their new plush area rug and dive into a unlimited source of literature.

Students having the option to sit more relax will increase interactive group dialogue on story-based character traits and engage their minds in independent reading.

My goal is to add this Literary Lounge area to my classroom because it can make my classroom more conducive to collaborative communication, critical thinking, and creativity. Having a area dedicated to reading and equipped with an assortment of grade level books has positive impact to kids of all reading levels. Please help me add the wonderful section to my classroom.
