My Students

In my 1st grade class, students struggle everyday with reading and math skills. We use books and other things to teach/reinforce them. My students need a new, fun, interactive way to learn. By having 2 iPads in our classroom, my students will be able to practice skills/concepts in small groups.

Our school has a technology lab but is used by over 1,00 students taking Common Core assessments.

Therefore, it is not used by our 1st graders very often. These iPads would allow us to make connections using technology by use of a projector and document camera. My class consists of 23 amazing, outgoing, energetic, young students who look up to me daily. We represent many parts of the world. We speak different nationalities. We come from different parts of the city and even from several municipalities. They range from 1st to 5th grade level. We are limited to the amount of time that these students can use this technology. These iPads would offer many opportunities for the students daily in many different ways. We are working on many English/language Arts and Math Intervention Programs. This will be very beneficial to my students. My students love a challenge, encourage one another and enjoy each others company. They enjoy playing games and working with classmates to review skills.

My Project

I am requesting 2 iPads to use in small reading and math groups to help build reading and financial skills for the future. They can also work on intervention programs. My students need iPads to use in small reading and math groups to help build the skills/concepts taught in our 1st grade curriculum. There are so many apps that are available that will help my students gain the literacy that they need to survive and be successful in our world! These iPads will help my students to work on reading and math skills together in a small group setting. It will help them develop the reading and financial literacy they need to be successful during their lifetime. They need an iPad to connect to a projector and document camera to help create an interactive learning environment. This will help to introduce, reinforce, and enrich new concepts taught in our curriculum. These would help us meet the requirements across our first grade curriculum that includes reading/language arts, science, social studies and math. A lot of our resources require a computer for the reinforcement and enrichment programs. These iPads would help engage them in many ways.

This project will help because we run into all kinds of computer problems daily so these iPads would would be very beneficial to my students.

I want them to have all the necessary materials needed to help them meet all the standards in first grade and in future years will help them learn and sharpen their skills needed to meet the assessments for Common Core State Standards. Unfortunately, the books and materials we have do not meet the criteria for the CCSS. They would be a great asset.
