My Project
I am a special education teacher in NY. My school is an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. We have a large population of English language learners. The staff at our school pride ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives.
The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and delays in motor skills.
They have several different learning styles, and it is often a challenge to meet the specific needs of each and every child.
I have been teaching for 20 years and have used a variety of teaching models to teach literacy. I have noticed that students learn best when new literacy concepts are taught explicitly and systematically. The Structured Literacy approach to teach literacy is just that. Structured Literacy is a way of teaching foundational literacy skills like decoding and spelling, along with higher level skills like comprehension in a systematic and explicit way.
I am requesting TPT gift cards to purchase a bundle of Structured Literacy Lessons that will help me teach my students to read in a fun and interactive way. I will use the bundle to supplement and strengthen the literacy program my school is currently using. I know this will support my students in learning to read and creating a lifelong love of learning!
