Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 30 dual language first graders. They are learning in Spanish and English every day. I get the privilege of teaching the English side of our program at a Title I school and I get to watch these incredible second language learners develop a new language and excel at it.

The majority of my students come from low income households and don't often have all the resources they need to succeed.

At school, we try to create a space of support and safety and provide all the resources they could need.

My students are becoming super readers every day, and it brings me so much joy watching as they discover this entire new world of adventure. Early literacy will be a big focus for us this year, and I can't wait to see the growth these incredible students make.

My Project

I am beginning to use a new approach with my students during our literacy instruction. I will be trained in Orton Gillingham and many of these supplies we are needing will be used by my students during the different multi-sensory activities we will be doing.

These supplies will provide fun and engaging ways for students to become super readers!

They will be able to draw letters and words with the sand in the craft trays. They will be able to use the dot markers to map out sounds while decoding words. They will have their own erasers for their whiteboards instead of using tissues. Help fund this project to transform the learning experience for my students!
