Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 30 dual language first graders. They are learning in Spanish and English every day. I get the privilege of teaching the English side of our program at a Title I school and I get to watch these incredible second language learners develop a new language and excel at it.

The majority of my students come from low income households and don't often have all the resources they need to succeed.

At school, we try to create a space of support and safety and provide all the resources they could need.

My students are becoming super readers every day, and it brings me so much joy watching as they discover this entire new world of adventure. Early literacy will be a big focus for us this year, and I can't wait to see the growth these incredible students make.

My Project

We are beginning a new curriculum as well as implementing an intervention program with Orton Gillingham to help our 1st graders become super readers.

These materials will make our literacy small groups and centers far more engaging!

Right now, we have white boards to use for practicing decoding words but this project would give us multi-sensory materials to engage the WHOLE brain in phonics and reading development. The other part of this projects gives us motivations for our behavior management in class by providing fidgets and small toys as prizes each day!
