Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an ESL teacher at Museum School 25 in Yonkers, NY. Our school population is made up of minority students who share a low socioeconomic background and the majority receive free or reduced lunch. Most of these students are ESL students (English as a Second Language) who are reading below grade level based on scoring below the 40 percentile on the standardized tests. I teach students from grade K-5. My classroom is short on technological equipment. On a daily basis I need to make copies of activity worksheets and classroom work so students can master the skills necessary to read at grade level and to learn English. I also need to make copies of mandated reports and documents for my class. I don't have computers in my classroom. My English language learners are missing out on the opportunity to advance their education with the help of the right equipment. A plethora of Web sites and software packages are designed specifically for English language learners, and there are numerous software programs that are appropriate to use with my children. Software and web- based resources will also allow me to gather video clips, maps, audio clips, and other means of presenting information to my students. Right now I don't have a copy machine or a classroom computer and I hope you give this proposal a serious consideration.
