This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you used an iPad to read a book, or the amazement on your child's face when they got to? That look of excitement and amazement is what I see when my students get a chance to use my personal iPad. Help us be able to use them everyday to learn "WITH THE TIMES"

As a Title I school where almost all of the children receive free lunch, most of my students come from very low poverty households as first generation Americans here for "The American Dream".

We are located in one of the oldest, yet poorest neighborhoods of Staten Island where some of my students lost their homes due to Hurricane Sandy. On a daily basis, where I am happy that my students had the opportunity to complete their homework, I am amazed beyond belief at their dedication to reading, writing and math. There is no greater joy than doing everything I can for my students so that they achieve the "American Dream" in school!

My Project

After the winter break, I returned to school with my new iPad mini, given to me by my wife as a Christmas gift. During Literacy Centers that day, I called over a few of my students to read a book with them on my iPad. There are not many words that can explain the look on their faces when one of them read "Curious George" with me. The looked as if they had won the lottery. However great this sounds, this opportunity was only for ONE of my students. The others started to frown in disappointment. "Can I try?"..."When is it my turn?"..."I want to read on the iPad"...so on and so forth. Sadly though as most of us know, the iPad is a one person thing, not easy to share. Everyday since that day three weeks ago, my students have asked to use my iPad during centers. All I can do is allow ONE of them to try. Please help us to allow ALL of my students to have a "chance" of at least once a week to learn on an iPad. I could go on about this, but out of characters allowed here!

With the two requested iPad's and with my personal iPad we will have three total in the classroom.

This will allow one of our five center groups to use them each day. ALL of the children will be able to learn with the excitement and drive needed in today's day and age!
