My Students

I have a diverse range of learners therefore I must learn to differentiate my teaching style to actively engage each student in my classroom. i want to make sure that I challenge and meet the needs of all my students through different outlets. i want to foster their love of learning.

My students are vibrant and have a hunger to learn.

I teach at a public school in urban New York and I have a variety of students who come from many socio economic backgrounds. My students are caring, friendly they love to help others in need. We just put to together supplies for people in other countries for project care who are less fortunate than they are. My students care about their environment and the community they live in. We visited an old age home during the winter holidays and my students made banana bread for the seniors as well as played games, drew pictures and danced. My kids want to be part of everything and i would love for them to be able to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way because you never know when they could have another.

My Project

Literacy is a huge component of early childhood. In kindergarten I teach my students how to read and write. The hard part is that not all kids develop at the same rate therefore some of the students will face many more challenges than others. The supplies I have requested will be used for different components within literacy. The lakeshore products speak for themselves one way for students to move ahead in reading and writing is to understand that while each letter may be isolated that within a group they form a word. I believe there is more to reading and writing then sitting in front of a book and using rote memorization as a tool of learning. The art supplies will enhance students creativity so that they can create their own stories through pictures and use the concepts of the lakeshore games to create words. The biggest thing I teach my students is that print carries meaning. If a child can feel empowered to write their own stories using drawing, they will be inclined to succeed.

My project is important because I want to make a difference in the lives of the children I teach.

I want to show them that learning is more than looking at a book, I want to show them that there are many outlets to the learning process and it doesn't have to stop when they leave school. By fostering a holistic approach I feel my students will love to learn and therefore look at every bump in the road as another opportunity to succeed.
