My Students

I teach STEM education to Kindergartners through 5th graders at 2 neighboring schools. We live in a region that is incredibly diverse due to the local university. Many of my students are from low income families, many are living far away from their home country, and many have never seen the opposite side of the state.

We celebrate diversity and embrace our different heritages, cultures and learning styles.

We all learn together and we learn from each other. We strive to have a growth mindset and appreciate our failures and learn from them, rather than be embarrassed by them. As a STEM teacher, this mindset is crucial when developing problem solving skills and creative thinking.

I am always searching for ways to give my students the best possible educational experience. I look for diverse books that reflect my students. I look for STEM projects and supplies to prepare them for their 21st century futures. Join me in creating a classroom that inspires my kids to love learning.

My Project

My goal as a STEM teacher is to make children aware of the plethora of STEM jobs that will be waiting for them upon graduation, and then prepare them for these jobs. I teach kids about computer science, robotics, the engineering design process and how to think in a creative, innovative way. These skills will be critical for them if they choose to pursue a career in STEM.

The nine picture books I've chosen show examples of people who embody the characteristics I am teaching.

They show innovators, inventors, game changers and risk takers. These stories tell my students that they are capable of doing incredible things. Not only that, but these books are also bringing literacy into my classroom in a natural way.

STEM jobs are built on a foundation of reading research, writing about research and communicating new ideas via papers and presentations. All of these skills are developed in my classroom. I want my students to know that STEM cannot happen without literacy, and therefore, literacy is so important!
