My Students

Learn as we play! Games are fun! Reading is fun!

Our kids are brilliant and they deserve excellent educational resources.

Approximately 65% of our students are African American, 29% are Hispanic, and the remaining 5% is made up of Asian (Pakistani, Ethiopian, Filipino) and Anglo American students. Because we are a full Title I school, a vast majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Our students may lack the material privileges that other American children are fortunate to have, but they certainly make up for it with talent, fortitude, and sheer intelligence. We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided with enough quality resources to shine; your donation will make the dream of a bright future come true.

My Project

The reading program my school district provides is good in many ways but tends to lack in the area of fun games that students can play to practice the reading skills taught during the days' lessons. The items selected for this proposal are board games for two to four players. It is my experience that using games such as these as part of a comprehensive literacy program helps ensure the acquisition of the necessary phonics skills for success. Students will use these new games in class during small group and independent work time once or twice a week throughout the year.
