Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A day in my classroom consists of frustrated students who can't express themselves verbally and have extreme receptive delays. They have limited vocabulary due to the lack of conversation at home. My challenge has been to build my students' literacy skills while their disabilities hinder their learning.

My students are from broken homes, and many are in shelters.

Despite their difficult home lives, they are happy, energetic and hungry for attention. Unfortunately, they lack any self-confidence and feel like they cannot achieve anything and therefore are unwilling to try. My school is high poverty and limited with supplies and materials to foster challenging and creative learning.

My Project

My students will use this listening center to help them build their vocabulary by bringing books to life. I feel by my students reading along with the CDs, they will have less fear and thus grow their confidence. They will use these materials to learn how stories go and be able to act them out. They will build their fluency, as well as their expression.

I feel that donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to learn to read and retell stories, and give them the avenue to believe that they "CAN"!

I hope that these materials will help them grow an inner drive to learn, all the while building their self-worth knowing they are truly cared about.
