Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is one of the most important skills you can teach a child. If one can teach a student to read and comprehend what they are reading then you have taught them how to increase their knowledge independently. Language tubs are an excellent resource for increasing this skill.

Even though the students in my classroom present as being on the autism spectrum they are brilliant.

These early learners are interested in everything, including science, math and reading. As atypical learners, they have a variety of learning characteristics and require a multiple resources to differentiate instruction. They all love learning language skills and literacy through the use of objects and the materials requested will help provide them with concrete examples of the skills they are learning.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are alphabet tubs and rhyming tubs. The primary purpose is to help the students understand literacy concepts such as initial letter sounds of words through the use of objects. There are a myriad of other purposes that the tubs can be used for such as labeling and identifying objects. In addition, they can be used to increase feature, function and class comprehension (e.g. "show me the one that is an animal, has stripes, cut with", etc.) and labeling/identifying parts of a whole. The resources are both highly motivating and can be used to increase many skills.

Your donation will help provide my students with highly motivating resources that can increase many skills including literacy and language skills.

As young students who present as being on the autism spectrum they require concrete examples of the skills they are being taught. My students are brilliant and many will hopefully be moving on to less restrictive environments when they enter kindergarten in the fall. The teaching tubs will help many achieve this goal.
