Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom are avid readers! Many have learned letters and letter sounds and some are even beginning to read words. Please help my students continue to enjoy learning by providing them with new books.

My students love to learn!

They are early learners (3 years old) who present with atypical development but they are also a bright, kind and wonderful group. This group of students in particular enjoy books very much. They attend to a variety of books and often read along with me. They also enjoy sitting next to their peers and looking at books with each other. Many students are even beginning to read on their own. Some are doing this by decoding words but most are reading through repetition. Some students are not yet at the literacy stage but books are also wonderful for teaching picture labeling/identification and other skills such as identifying actions or simply just enjoying reading with a peer or teacher. This great group of children would be very excited by the new knowledge presented in these books.

My Project

The leveled readers, phonics tubs, and board books will help my students increase countless skills. Not only will they help to increase literacy but they will help with skills such as comprehending text and sequencing events. Most of the students know letters and letter sounds and many are starting to read words phonetically from left to right. An important next step is to teach blends (phonics tubs) and to help them understand sentence structure that is part of leveled reading. The educational value of reading is obvious but there is also many social skills that the students are learning organically through reading. They are reading next to one another and sometimes with one another. Most importantly, many friendships are forming over the shared experience that reading offers.

I am privileged to teach such a wonderful and bright group of children.

I have helped put them on the path of life long learning and understanding the joy that books can bring. Help my students continue along this path by providing them with new adventures to increase their joy of reading.
