My Students

We are a Title I school. Fifty percent of the students are Hispanic and forty percent are African American. Our English Language population is about ninety students, consisting of Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Albanian and Urdu, to name a few.

Many students come here from other countries without any knowledge or understanding of English.

Unlike elementary school where the content is for beginners and the native American children learn with the ELLs, in middle school, these children are much older and the content is more difficult. They are good kids that need a chance to be successful.

My Project

I am in a Title I school and I teach English Language Learners. Having a variety of reading materials is the hallmark of learning to read and learning to enjoy reading. Scholastic is the leader in helping kids not only learn to read, but enjoy it through engaging and timely articles. In addition, students will be able to practice fluency when practicing to read the stories that are written like a play.

Students can read at their own levels which supports scaffolding a lesson to each individual student.
