it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a K-5 public school teaching art to young, creative minds. I am the teacher for 18 different classes of about 20 students each, so we use ALOT of art materials here! Can you think back to creating art in your elementary classroom? Bringing it home to share with friends and family was on the of the proudest moments I can personally remember. My students share that pride and strive to create art they can share to spark joy in others.
My students come into art with enthusiasm and an eagerness to immerse themselves in the artistic process!
Their willingness to try new techniques and their curiosity about art materials lends itself to beautiful works of art beyond that of an elementary level. They have a love for books and enjoy the literacy component to any art lesson. It is my goal to provide my students with the materials they need to keep exploring and discovering in the art room.
My Project
This is my 3rd year as an elementary art teacher and building my library is extremely important to me. I love to use books to make connections to the lessons I give my students. Whether we are learning about the elements of art or a specific artist, having a literacy component helps make meaningful connections to concepts I want to teach.
I love seeing my student's faces light up when I bring in a new book for us to use as inspiration for one of our projects.
These books will enhance the experience my students have in the art room while also helping to increase literacy comprehension. The addition of these books to the art room not only helps my current students, but also, all of my future students. Donating to this project is contributing to years of storytelling and knowledge in the art room.
