My Students

I teach kindergarten in a diverse urban setting in the Philadelphia School District. I have 30 learners in my classroom, many of whom have never attended Pre K.

I teach at a Title I School where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Many of my students have not been exposed to education previous to entering my classroom. They all come to my classroom eager to learn and it is my job to provide the foundation they need to be lifelong readers. They enjoy new challenges and they all need hands-on activities to help reinforce phonemic awareness and writing skills in kindergarten. My students are thirsty to learn and enjoy working together in groups to become confident and successful readers and writers.

My Project

These materials will be used to provide learning opportunities during guided reading centers. My kindergarten students are on their way to becoming lifelong readers and need more advanced centers to build their literacy skills. The learning stations help build phonemic awareness, confidence, and independence.

These learning tools will help to advance their word building skills.

The stack and build phonics flip books will allow students to decode and read words to build their confidence as they blend words. The simple words learning locks allows them to match words to pictures to increase their confidence in decoding words through hands-on learning. The word sliders allows them to cover beginning, middle, and ending sounds to identify missing letters and increase their phonemic awareness with visual support. The touch and read cvc match game allows them to touch each letter as they practice blending words to read with fluency and confidence.
