This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a first grade teacher at an urban school with 20 first graders in our classroom. My students are very eager to learn but come with limited skills and hardly any academic support from home. They have behavioral, social and academic concerns that are challenging.
The eagerness they have is something that I admire and look forward to each day. I am requesting materials that they can look forward to using daily to help catch up to the level they need to be successful in first grade.
By using the Match Ups puzzle set they will be able to make connections to beginning, ending and middle sounds as well as rhyming through puzzles on the floor.
The Phonemic Awareness Centers have everything students need to strengthen these skills independently in the areas of sounds, CVC words, vowels, and word syllables. These can help my students find reading fun instead of frustrating.
The last item is Magnetic Boards will help them sort their vowels and consonants. This is a skill that is very important to their reading and is great practice.
Thank you for your support and giving my fabulous first graders the opportunity to be successful!
