My students need books and learning games for literacy centers to help them stay engaged in their learning, especially during small group rotations. They rotate from being with the teacher to working independently and these centers will further their learning!

My Students

Picture this... a classroom of 26 five year olds staring at you, eager to soak up any information being taught! They are excited and energetic, despite the fact that many of them come from families with very little. I want my students to have the best resources in front of them all the time!

My students are from a high poverty area of DC.

Despite this fact, the school is one of the top performing schools in the city. Teachers are dedicated to ensuring students have the best of what's around and students are excited to learn and grow. Every day I walk into school, I am greeted by the best smiling 5 year-olds around. It is my job to make sure I am doing everything I can to set them up for successful school careers that lead to the amazing lives that they want and deserve.

My Project

These literacy centers will provide a chance for students to meaningfully engage with words, language, reading and learning to ensure they are getting the most out of rotations at school. They have about 20 minutes of independent learning during the hour rotation and we want this time to be both fun and educational!

Books are the greatest gift a classroom can receive!

These books will help my students grow a love of reading and learning. The more options they have, the more choice they will get on their own independent reading levels. I want my students to begin their love of reading now and carry that throughout their lives.
