This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, it is my job to prepare these students for their future. My students walk into class eager to learn and I am ready to lead them. My 9th - 12th-grade students are highly motivated and learning to navigate the demands of the hectic high school years. I look for creative strategies and texts to supplement my Early Childhood Education curriculum and enrich their reading skills.

My students have lots of energy, need to know “why are we learning this,” and love real-world, hands-on activities.

Early Childhood Education students learn about nutrition and wellness, apparel and textiles, human growth and development, money management, smart design, explore careers, and develop workplace readiness skills that all graduates need to be successful in college or their career. The more resources I can provide them on this journey the better!

My Project

Help us instill a love of reading for all early learners. This project will allow us to purchase a curriculum of early children’s books to use as a foundation for preschool lesson plans that my high school students will create and teach. These lessons will be taught by the students to our onsite preschool for young children that we hold three days a week.

The Preschool Lab is an introductory to student teaching program that addresses the following goals and STEAM aspects using Children’s Books as themes for lesson planning.

Goal 1: Introduce high school students to the field of early childhood education as well as experience a pre-student teaching atmosphere using children’s books as a foundation for lesson planning.

Goal 2: Students will discover firsthand the important roles of educators in the life of a child and the importance of life long learning and reading to children.

Goal 3: Utilize STEAM in a Pre-Student Teaching Environment within a childcare setting.

Science- Students will be learning about the varying development of a toddler, preschooler, and school-age child.

Technology- Students will be working with computers and smart technology.

Engineering- Students will be engineering lesson plans that include all five areas of development.

Art- Students will be experiencing art as both a creator and as a teacher.

Mathematics- Students will be completing a cost analysis during the last part of the class where they will have to actually design their ideal preschool or daycare classroom.
