What could you dream up if you had the world at your fingertips? For my students, they walk in everyday with the attitude that they can believe and dream anything they desire.
The Pre-K students are the smallest, and most vivacious, learners at our school.
They come to school every day with smiles on their faces because they truly enjoy being there. They love learning, they love their teachers and they love each other. Our school is located in a high poverty area where many, if not all, of our students receive free/reduced lunch. For many of our students, the classroom provides the only access they will have to these fun and exciting materials. While we do our best to make sure books, writing and art supplies go home with students, some materials must stay at school. This is why I believe it is so important to have a classroom filled with hands-on materials in order to maximize the students' knowledge within the short amount of time in the school day.
My Project
Having a literacy rich classroom filled with the books I have requested will help my students on their educational journey. Literacy is the foundation of a successful life in the United States. Without it, they cannot succeed. I want my students to know that, even if they don't have their own books at home, they can come to school and find a book that they will like. If my project is funded, they will have more books to read, by themselves and during independent reading time. They will learn how fun and enjoyable reading can be!
I have also requested art supplies to supplement my students' learning. I want my students to create art based on the books they have read. This type of integrated arts learning, helps students deepen their understanding of books and their themes.
Lastly, I have requested a dress up center and a tree doll house complete with furniture/dolls so that my students can bring their stories to life. I want to give my students every possibility to be successful.
By funding my project, you will be adding tons of new books to our classroom library.
You will be giving a classroom full of Pre-K students a way to transport themselves to exciting, new worlds, away from the poverty and violence of their own neighborhood. Help spark that love of reading, art and dramatic play that will kindle a lifelong commitment of learning.
