This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I have the honor and challenge to teach our newcomer students. These are students that are relatively new to our country or new into our education system.

My goal for this project is to support learning of mathematics and algebra skills using their own language, initially, while little by little helping them to develop a new language, English.

Newcomer students come from many different cultural backgrounds and educational needs, but their knowledge level of the English language is none to basic. These characteristics make my students special, because these students will be the ones that will continue to move our country forward. Thus it is imperative I support them academically, so their language and social-emotional learning develop.
