My Students

All day long the teacher talks. The students job is to follow directions. What if I can't read the directions. What if I can't read the text. The student thinks, " I need to practice by myself". I can't wait to work in guided groups.

I teach in a low socioeconomic urban environment.

My 2nd graders are eager to learn and explore new ideas. This CTT class is divided by many diverse needs and divided by 2 teachers.The classroom has limited technology for 28 students to use during our Literacy block. I would like to bridge this gap by using more technology in the classroom. My students have very limited vocabulary and are in need of read-alouds. Listening to stories are great ways for my students to increase and develop vocabulary skills and learn many new words. Many of the students are one to two grade levels behind in Literacy. Giving the students time to learn individually using their guided levels allows independence and growth at the same time.

My Project

The Apple iPod will allow me to download audiobooks to play during guided groups. This will help with language acquisitions, fluency and comprehension with English learners and special needs students. Students can also watch animated stories come to life through seeing words and listening to them, as well. During reading groups students will be provided with opportunities to practice fluency, vocabulary, comprehension skills while working on their independent reading levels.

By donating an Apple IPod to our classroom will allow my students more opportunities to listen and view genres using new technology.

This will give the students more confidence to practice and enhance Literacy skills.
