Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What do I love about my students? That in spite of enduring layers upon layers of intersectional trauma, they are both kind and gentle. They are exceptional in their families and communities in choosing to stay in and apply themselves to school. They are looking for a way to make their lives better, and their families lives as well. The empowering literature that I want to provide them with will help them to understand the stigmatization and oppression inherent in our culture and systems, that they are not "broken" and "lowly" people, but truly beautiful and powerful. Ultimately, I want to empower them to think more critically by exposing them to perspectives and ideas that they have most likely never heard before.
