Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Equipping my classroom with headphones, writing utensils, organizational tools, and engaging activities can profoundly impact my students' learning experiences. Headphones allow them to focus on individualized listening and reading lessons, fostering comprehension and fluency in a structured, distraction-free environment. Writing utensils and activities provide hands-on opportunities to practice essential skills while reinforcing concepts in creative, memorable ways. Organizational tools ensure students can manage their work efficiently, reducing frustration and building confidence. Additionally, small incentives like snacks and stickers celebrate their achievements, motivating them to stay engaged and committed to their progress. These resources are not luxuries; they are the building blocks of a supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Every small step forward—completing a challenging passage, spelling a new word, or organizing their materials—cumulatively transforms their academic trajectory, giving them skills to succeed not just in the classroom but in life.

For 6th-8th grade students with dyslexia, realistic yet impactful goals include improving reading fluency, expanding vocabulary, and mastering organizational skills. These students work hard to decode language, often requiring innovative approaches and repetition to succeed. Providing them with tools like headphones or a simple sticker for a job well done shows that their effort matters and builds a foundation of trust and self-belief. A little support can lead to extraordinary achievements.

My students are remarkable because they persevere against incredible odds. At a campus where 26 languages are represented, they face the dual challenge of navigating dyslexia and developing English language skills. They are resilient, creative, and eager to learn when given the right support. Each one brings a unique perspective, enriched by their cultural backgrounds and experiences. With compassion and the right tools, I can help them feel safe, celebrated, and empowered to unlock their potential, demonstrating that their differences are their greatest strengths.
