Many students enjoy oral literature. I teach English to a diverse population of seniors. I have students who are learning the English language as well as students who have modifications for learning disabilities and students for whom English is not their strength.
Individual students have different learning styles. Some students prefer reading literature silently and alone, other prefer listening to it read aloud. Accommodating all students is difficult in one classroom.
An MP3 listening station would allow me to accommodate both types of students at the same time. Students reading silently would be able to do so in a quiet environment while students choosing to hear the literature would also be able to do so without being disturbed.
In addition to helping students during a class period, the stations would also allow students who have missed class to listen and catch up during tutorials.
