Help me give my students an opportunity to hear books read to them in an independent learning center which encourages reading and language developement.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten in a low socio-economic area of Connecticut. Our entire school receives free breakfast and lunch because of the income level of our families overall. Many children have only heard and spoken Spanish at home (often of Puerto Rican descent) and some have only been exposed to Arabic. Our school is K-5 with most grades having 5 classes. My students entered school this year with the majority having little to no exposure to a school environment before kindergarten.
We have a incredibly dedicated staff of teachers and administrators.
Our staff hosts many after hours activities so that school becomes a happy and familiar place for our families.
My Project
This listening center will be an independent part of my ELA block .
My kindergarteners will use it daily to reinforce early reading skills.
My students are pre-readers now. With your help, I can encourage a love of reading early which will last a lifetime!
Research shows that having an easy to use classroom listening center stocked with quality literature helps young readers SEE the illustrations, TOUCH the words, HEAR the stories and THINK about the plot as they independently use this center.
YOU can be a part of changing a child's life by contributing to this progject and helping to create a reader!
