My Students

Latino, Samoan, African-American, White, Asian, and Multiracial. The students in my classroom are of different ethnicities, but they all have one goal in mind: BILITERACY! They are enrolled in a 50/50 Dual Language Program. All students are learning how to read, write, listen, and communicate in both English and Spanish. They are in need of more Spanish books and games to develop the target language both at school and at home. Your help will truly make a difference and is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

My Project

My students are learning to read in two languages: English and Spanish. They need more opportunities to listen to stories read aloud in both languages. The portable CD players and headphones will allow them to listen to stories more often and will give them the flexibility to sit or lay anywhere they want in the classroom. Maybe they could even listen to a story outside, under a tree! Listening to quality literature will allow my students to become better readers by following along as they read, acquiring new vocabulary, listening to fluent reading models, and developing comprehension. Overall, it will develop a love of reading that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
